More Monuments is building the next world wonder in America. A question we frequently get asked is: How do we define world wonders?
After doing research and looking at historical examples, we’ve come up with the answer. Read on to learn more…
The Four Types
We have identified that there are four types of World Wonders:
Art
Structures
Ecosystems
Technology
Let’s dive in and learn more about each type…
Art
Art, unlike the other categories, is subjective. Typically when we think about this category we reference statues, paintings, and more that have influenced the world positively.
Pictured above is the Colossus of Rhodes. It was built over 2000 years ago, and was as tall as the Statue of Liberty is today. Can you believe that we built that?
It’s one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World for this reason.
Structures
Structures, or more simply put, buildings are all around us in today’s world. However, few stand out as beautiful. The Colosseum and Taj Mahal (pictured above) show us glimpses into what structures of the future could (and should) look like!
Also to be noted: Structures are not limited to buildings, but can also include bridges (ex: Golden Gate Bridge), parks (ex: Central Park), and more.
Ecosystems
Ecosystems are where Art, Structures, and Technology thrive. All of humanity’s greatest achievements have been accomplished within ecosystems, landforms, and cities.
Sometimes ecosystems form naturally, like Mount Everest or Silicon Valley. Sometimes they mythical, like Atlantis. Often times, they are places that thrived greatly in the past, like Ancient Rome, or Renaissance Florence.
Technology
If you are a technologist reading this, you might be thinking to yourself: “I know nothing about architecture, how could I possibly build a wonder?”.
Thankfully, it’s been done before, and not too long ago. In the late 90’s, the International Space Station was built.
However, what most people don’t realize is that it’ll be blown up in 2031. The need for more Technological World Wonders has never been higher.
Properly defined, Technology consists of science-related innovations, deep tech, and more.
